Dalhart TX is located in the Northwest corner of the Texas panhandle, approximately 85 miles NW of Amarillo. This area is known for its farming and ranching heritage, which provides an ample food supply for our wintering waterfowl. Between 500,000 and 1 million Canadian and Snow Geese winter right here every year!!
Lake Rita Blanca National Wildlife Refuge gives that wintering population a roosting safe haven. The refuge also provides a great place for wildlife viewing and photography. Pictures can only show you so much though. To fully understand how many birds stay on this lake it truly is a 'must see' to believe.
